Upon the team’s arrival at Renti, Olympiacos goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino was informed that he will be practicing with the club’s second team (Under 20) until further notice after another disappointing performance this season. Kapino was at fault for Olympiacos’ first conceded goal against AEK on Sunday, where Lazaros’ shot was poorly handled by the Greece international, giving AEK a lifeline midway through the second half.

AEK’s second goal was scored with a magnificent free kick by Lazaros Christodoulopoulos, a shot that left Kapino still in his place as he watched the ball find the top corner of the net. The late winner for the Kitrinomavri left no chance for Kapino to keep the ball out of the net and was faulted to poor defending.

Since the start of the season, Kapino’s position as Olympiacos’ number one was in question, forcing the club to pick up experienced goalkeeper Silvio Proto on deadline day. The 23-year old has been a let down for Olympiacos in multiple matches this season and his showing against AEK exemplified his poor form as of late.

Proto will be the new starting goalkeeper at Olympiacos as Kapino trains with the second team until further notice. Kapino will likely be left out of the roster for Wednesday’s midweek Champions League clash against Juventus as Proto hopes to prove his worth in the Olympiacos goal.
