- Pre-Selection Roster for Olympic Qualifying Tournament Announced -

Fotis Katsikaris announced Greece’s pre-selection roster for the upcoming Olympic Qualifying Tournament. The Antetokounmpo brothers were selected while Printezis and Mavrokefalidis were left out due to injury.

Katsikaris’ 16-men pre-selection roster will participate in the first part of training for the Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Giannis Antetokounmpo was called-up, however, his participation in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament is up in the air. The Bucks are pressuring the Greek center to not join the National Team this summer and would rather have him work individually on improving his game. Antetokounmpo wants to help Greece for the Olympics and will try to convince the Bucks during his meeting with them on Thursday. He will stress the fact that the National Team helps him improve as a player and that competing in the Olympic Games is an important moment for his career. Perperoglou and Sloukas were also named in today’s roster even though their participation is not certain due to small injuries they have sustained with their club teams. Additionally, Printezis and Mavrokefalidis were not called-up because of injuries. On the other hand, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Ioannis Papapetrou, Tyler Dorsey, and Vasilis Charalampopoulos were called up to the national team for the first time.

Preparations for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament will begin next week. Greece will have little time to train since the tournament is set to begin early next month. The Episimi Agapimeni will have three friendly matches before their opening game against Iran on July 4th. Greece will play Turkey at the OAKA Stadium on June 23rd, then travel to Turkey 3 days later before playing their final exhibition match away to Serbia on June 28th.
