Vassilis Spanoulis has broken another Euroleague record! The 34-year old became the second player to break the 1,000 assist mark while becoming the first player to have scored 3,000 points, dish 1,000 assists, and accumulate over 3,000 points in the Euroleague index rating.
It was a memorable night for Vassilis Spanoulis on Wednesday as Olympiacos defeated Barcelona in the Euroleague. The Olympiacos captain became the second player in the Euroleague’s history to dish 1,000 career assists. Spanoulis now only trails his Greek counterpart, Dimitris Diamantidis, at the top of the assists’ table with 1,255 assists. However, if Spanoulis keeps up his good form he will stay on pace to break Diamantidis’ record.
Additionally, Spanoulis is now the only player in the Euroleague’s history to have at least 1,000 assists while scoring over 3,000 points and accumulating over 3,000 points in the Euroleague index rating. Spanoulis is currently second in all-time scoring in the Euroleague with 3087 points, only trailing Juan Navaro with 3920 points. In the index ratings he sits in 5th place behind Vujcic, Reyes, Navarro, and the leader, Dimitris Diamantidis.
