Robert Mak will continue his career at Zenit Saint Petersburg after PAOK and the Russian side agreed to a €3.5 million deal. PAOK also announced the signing of central defender Fernando Varela from Steaua Bucuresti. Erik Sabo was sent on loan to Beitar Jerusalem.

PAOK announced the transfer of Slovakian striker, Robert Mak, to Zenit Saint Petersburg. Earlier in the week, it was known that Mak would continue his career elsewhere as the player was in talks with both Anderlecht and Zenit. Zenit will pay PAOK a €3.5 million transfer fee with Mak signing a contract until 2020 with the Russian club.

Mak was one of PAOK’s best players during his two year stay in Thessaloniki. He had 81 appearances for the club and scored 28 goals (10 in Europe) from 2014-2016. He also had a good showing at Euro 2016 helping Slovakia’s National Team make it out of the Group Stage. The 25-year old was a fan favorite and he expressed his thanks towards the fans and the club via Instagram after his move was announced. He wrote “These were the best two years of my life. I want to thank the coaching staff, my teammates, and of course the amazing fans that welcomed me from the very first day. It is an honor that I was apart of PAOK’s history.”

Fernando Varela will continue his career in Thessaloniki for PAOK after completing a transfer move from Steaua Bucuresti. PAOK and the Romanian side agreed to a €1.4 million deal for the 28-year old center back, who signed a 3 year contract. Varela began his career in Portugal with Estoril and has played in Romania since 2012 when he moved to Vaslui. His good performances at Vaslui caught the attention of Romanian giants, Steaua Bucuresti, and he signed with them in 2013. In his 3 years with Steaua, he made 82 appearances, scored 10 goals, was named captain of the club leading his team to 2 Romanian League Titles, a Romanian Cup, and a Romanian League Cup Championship. Varela is from Cape Verde and has 40 international caps for his country.

Finally, Erik Sabo will play on loan to Beitar Jerusalem for the upcoming season. Beitar knocked out Cypriot side, Omonia, in the Europa League 2nd Qualifying Round on Thursday.
