APOEL fell 2-1 in Norway against Rosenborg in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League 3rd qualifying round. Despite the defeat, the Cypriots are well in contention to progress after scoring an all important away goal in the second half.

It was a horrible first half for APOEL as they fell behind 2-0 after Gytkjaer and Skjelvik found the back of the net for the hosts. The Cypriot Champions played much better in the second half and were able to pull one back in the 67th minute when Efrem’s volley, from Gianniotas’ cross, beat Kwarasey. APOEL had a tremendous chance in the final minute to pull level but de Camargo could not connect with the ball in front of an open goal.

With the 2-1 result, APOEL will only need a 1-0 victory in the second leg to advance to the playoff qualifying round. The return leg will be held on Tuesday in Nicosia.
