Greece defeated Mexico 86-70 to go 2/2 in group play of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. As expected, Greece tops Group A and will now play the runner-up of Group B in the knockout phase.

Despite getting off to a slow start, Greece was able to come away with the victory over Mexico in the 2nd and final game of group play. Mexico took the early lead and was ahead by 2 points at halftime. However, a good second half from a more “serious” Greek team was enough to give our National Team a comfortable 86-70 victory.

The leading scorer for the Galanolefki was Giannis Antetokounmpo with 21 points. Yiannis Bourousis came close to a double-double scoring 16 points with 9 rebounds. Thanasis Antetokounmpo put on another great showing, scoring 12 points. For the opposition, Cruz was the best player putting up 19 points.

As expected, Greece tops Group A ahead of Mexico and Iran (eliminated). In the knockout phase, which consists of four teams, Greece will play the runner-up from Group B, Croatia, in the semi-finals while Mexico will play Italy. The winners of the two semi-finals will play for the golden ticket to the Rio Olympic Games. Greece will play their first knockout game on Friday at 10:30 AM (EST).
