Greece will celebrate another medal tomorrow! Pavlos Kagialis & Panagiotis Mantis have secured an Olympic Medal after the conclusion of the preliminary races in the Men's 470 Sailing event. Tomorrow in the medal race, they will look to hold onto 2nd place or even go for the gold!
The Greek duo was exceptional in the final 3 races of the preliminary round, finishing 2nd in the 8th, 9th, and 10th races. Today's performance bumped them up to 2nd place in the overall standings with 38 point deductions. The Greek team's current placement and score mathematically SECURES them a 3rd place finish and a medal in Rio!
Tomorrow at 1:05 PM, the medal race will take place with the Greek team starting off in 2nd place behind the Croatian team (27 point deductions). The first priority for Greece will be to hold onto their silver medal (Australia in 3rd with 40 point deductions) and if it is possible, contend for the gold. The gold medal will be a difficult task with the Greek team needing to finish 6 places ahead of the Croatian team.
