Kostas Mitroglou returned to the starting line-up for Benfica and led his side to a 3-1 victory over Braga. The Greek striker scored twice for his club sending the Eagles atop the Portuguese Primeira Liga standings.

Kostas Mitrolgou has been sidelined due to injury and returned to Benfica’s starting XI for today’s “derby” against Braga. The Greek striker wasted no time in scoring his first goal in this year’s League play, with a well-placed left footed effort to give Benfica the 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. Benfica dominated the game and sealed their victory in the 74th minute with Pizzi, before Mitroglou’s header put Benfica ahead 3-0 in the 78th minute. Braga found a consolation goal in the 90th minute and Benfica went on to win 3-1.

The win puts Benfica atop the Portuguese Primeira Liga standings, one point ahead of Sporting Lisbon. Andreas Samaris did not play due to an injury that will leave him out for the next 4-6 weeks, meaning he will also miss Greece’s upcoming qualifiers against Cyprus and Estonia.
