Xanthi and Lamia share spoils of stalemate

Xanthi earned a valuable point in a goalless draw at Lamia on Monday as neither side could find a winning goal to claim victory in a tightly-contested matchday 5 clash at the Lamia Municipal stadium.

In a game where defences were on top for long spells, it was the visitors who came closest to scoring with Okan Suleiman hitting the woodwork after 35 minutes.

Having said that, Makis Chavos’ Lamia enjoyed the lion’s share of chances and possession in the second half, but a combination of poor finishing and solid goalkeeping from Xanthi’s Zivko Zivkovic kept the scoreboard blank.

The result meant that Xanthi moved into seventh place with six points from five matches so far, while winless Lamia are third from bottom with only two points to their name.
