The visitors created their first effort in the 12th minute when a free kick from Daniel Aquino forced Rafael Romo to a save. APOEL gained some ground as time went on and Musa Al-Taamari from the right side was a continuous threat to AEK’s defence, however the hosts lacked on the final pass. Just before halftime, AEK touched the goal when Daniel Mojsov’s header from a corner kick was denied by Romo.

APOEL picked up the pace in the second half as they looked for a much needed goal while AEK sat back content with the clean sheet. In the 65th minute, Al-Taamari rushed on the counter, however his pass towards Andre Vidigal was not good and it was intercepted by the defense. Two minutes later, Caju went in front of Tono Ramirez but he opted to pass the ball to Vidigal, however the final pass was lacking and APOEL missed another great chance to open the scoring. AEK’s stubborn defense and APOEL’s lack of quality in the final third brought the game to a rather uneventful goalless end.

APOEL retreated to second place, two points behind new leaders Apollon, with the Galazokitrinoi failing to defeat AEK once again this season. AEK are looking to catch up to third placed AEL sitting two points behind the Limassil side, while they are ten points behind leaders Apollon.
