23 point deductions under Alafouzos
 

Since Alafouzos took over as Panathinaikos owner, the club have seen a total of 23 points deducted from the SuperLeague table.

Over the last few years, Panathinaikos have undergone some of the darkest times in club history with the club’s owner, Giannis Alafouzos, having tasted the blame for the Prasini’s downward spiral. The Trifylli have been plagued by financial trouble resulting in licensing trouble, point deductions, player departures, poor results, and possible relegation.

Point deductions have been a common occurrence in Paiania for not only incidents of fan trouble, but also due to financial penalties. Since Alafouzos took over as club president, Panathinaikos have been handed a whopping total of 23 point deductions over the years, with the most recent six point deduction coming from Panathinaikos’ inability to obtain a license to compete in next year's SuperLeague.  

Before Friday’s six point deduction, Panathinaikos were deducted 6 points from two derbies between Olympiacos (the derby of Pereira and for the flare hit former Olympiacos player Finnbogason), five points from last year’s incident versus PAOK (beer can hit coach Vladan Ivic), and six points from debts owed to former player Jens Wemmer.
