AGONAsport’s Shaun Nicolaides rounds up the performances of Greeks playing in other leagues in this week’s Greeks Abroad Review.

In the Eredivisie, Pantelis Hatzidiakos struck gold with a superb strike for AZ Alkmaar in a 3-0 win against Twente, while two penalties from Dimitris Diamantakos helped St. Pauli draw 2-2 with Karlsruher in the second tier of German football. Lazaros Rota and Christos Kountouriotis both scored for Michalovce in Slovakia.

MAIN MEN (Comprised of current/former national team players):

Sokratis Papastathopoulos (Arsenal/English Premier League): Played 90 minutes of the 1-1 home draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Konstantinos Mavropanos (Arsenal/English Premier League): Did not play any part in the tie with Wolverhampton at home.

Jose Cholevas (Watford/English Premier League): Sat on the bench with Watford conceding a slender 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea.

Nikos Karelis (Brentford/English Championship): The Greek forward is out with a long-term injury. Brentford lost 1-0 against Huddersfield this week.

Panagiotis Retsos (Bayer Leverkusen/German Bundesliga): Remained an unused substitute as Bayer Leverkusen conceded a 2-1 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach at home.

Konstantinos Stafylidis (Hoffenheim/German Bundesliga): Not a member of the matchday squad against Paderborn. His club won 3-0.

Stefanos Kapino (Werder Bremen/German Bundesliga): The back-up goalkeeper watched his team play to a 2-2 draw against Freiburg from the comfort of the bench.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos (Hamburg/German Bundesliga 2): The defender has been ostracized from the first team. Hamburg drew 1-1 at SV Wehen.

Kostas Manolas (Napoli/Serie A): Played 90 minutes as Napoli suffered a 2-1 loss at AS Roma.

Orestis Karnezis (Napoli/Serie A): Sat on the bench during the defeat against Roma on the road.

Panagiotis Tachtsidis (Lecce/Serie A): Missed the 2-2 home draw against Sassuolo.

Charalampos Lykogiannis (Cagliari/Serie A): Played the entirety of the 2-0 away win at Atalanta and received a yellow card in the process.

Dimitris Nikolaou (Empoli/Serie B): Kept on the bench with Empoli conceding a 2-0 defeat to Benevento.

Odisseas Vlachodimos (Benfica/Portuguese Primeira Liga): Kept a clean sheet for Benfica as the reigning Portuguese champions defeated Rio Ave 2-0.

Andreas Samaris (Benfica/Portuguese Primeira Liga): Wasn’t in the squad for the game against Rio Ave in Lisbon.

Dimitris Siovas (Leganes/La Liga): Played 90 minutes of a 2-1 home loss to Eibar.

Vasilis Lampropoulos (Deportivo/La Liga 2): Given 90 minutes on the pitch as Deportivo played to a 1-1 draw at Fuenlabrada.

Efthymis Koulouris (Toulouse/Ligue 1): Played 90 minutes as Toulouse conceded a narrow 3-2 home loss to Olympique Lyonnais.

Anastasios Donis (Reims/Ligue 1): Didn’t participate in a 2-0 away loss to Nice.

Konstantinos Mitroglou (PSV Eindhoven/Eredivisie): Used as a substitute in the 56th minute of a 2-2 away draw against Sparta.

Pantelis Hatzidiakos (AZ Alkmaar/Eredivisie): Scored the opening goal with a fantastic strike as AZ defeated Twente 3-0. Played the full match.

Marios Vrousai (Willem II/Eredivisie): Did not play in the 2-0 away loss to Groningen.

Vangelis Pavlidis (Willem II/Eredivisie): Played 90 minutes as Willem II lost 2-0 against Groningen on the road.

Tasos Bakasetas (Alanyaspor/Turkish Super Lig): Played the full match with Alanyaspor drawing 0-0 against Basaksehir.

Manolis Siopis (Alanyaspor/Turkish Super Lig): Also played 90 minutes against Basaksehir at home.

Georgios Tzavellas (Alanyaspor/Turkish Super Lig): Just like his fellow two Greeks, he played the entirety of the game against Basaksehir. Alanyaspor continue to lead the championship.

Carlos Zeca (FC Copenhagen/Danish Superliga): Played 90 minutes as Copenhagen defeated Sonderjyske 3-0 in the Danish capital. Cypriot striker Pieros Sotiriou scored the third goal.

Panagiotis Kone (Western United/A-League): Contributed with an assist in the 3-2 win against Melbourne Victory. Played 90 minutes.

GERMANY

Sebastian Vasiliadis (Paderborn/German Bundesliga): Played 90 minutes of the comprehensive 3-0 away loss against Hoffenheim.

Dimitris Diamantakos (St. Pauli/German Bundesliga 2): Converted two penalties and played 90 minutes in the 2-2 home draw with Karlsruher.

Panagiotis Vlachodimos (Grossaspach/Liga 3): Dished out an assist for the winning goal as his team defeated FSV Zwickau 1-0 on the road. Played 90 minutes.

NETHERLANDS

Konstantinos Lamprou (Vitesse/Eredivisie): Sat on the bench during a 2-1 away loss to FC Emmen.

Giorgos Strezos (Willem II/Eredivisie): The goalkeeper kept the bench warm while Willem II lost 2-0 at Groningen.

James Efmorfidis (Almere City/Eerste Divisie): Started the 3-2 defeat against Maastricht and was substituted with eight minutes remaining.

BELGIUM

Stergos Marinos (Charleroi/Jupiler League): Remained on the bench in a 2-2 draw against Mechelen.

Fjorin Durmishaj (Waasland-Beveren/Jupiler League): Started the match against Zulte Waregem and was substituted after the first half. Waasland-Beveren lost 2-1.

Nikos Kenourgios (Zulte Waregem/Jupiler League): Missed the 2-1 win at Waasland-Beveren.

SCOTLAND

Marios Ogboe (Hamilton/Scottish Premiership): Missed a 2-2 draw against Ross County at home.

TURKEY

Stelios Kitsiou (Ankaragucu/Turkish Super Lig): Played 90 minutes of a 2-1 home loss to Gaziantep.

Dimitris Chatziisaias (Rizespor/Turkish Super Lig): Missed the game against Galatasaray on the road. Rizespor lost 2-0.

Andreas Tatos (Altay/Turkish First League): Started the 3-2 defeat to Hatayspor and was later substituted at the half-time break.

POLAND

Michalis Manias (Pogon Szczecin/Ekstraklasa): Remained on the bench as his team drew 1-1 against Lech Poznan.

Konstantinos Triantafyllopoulos (Pogon Szczecin/Ekstraklasa): Played 90 minutes of the game with Lech Poznan.

BULGARIA
