Somewhere in Cyprus there is a widow, Stavroula Sofokleous. She is 94-years-old and has been a widow for 12 years after the death of her beloved husband Andreas. Stavroula and Andreas loved each other, and unlike most Cypriot wives, most of whom don’t care for sports, Stavroula faithfully went with Andreas every week to the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium in Larnaca to support his favorite team, Anorthosis.

Recently, on the 12th anniversary of Andreas’ death, Stavroula, who still avidly follows Anorthosis, decided to give back. Using pension money, she gave the gift of Anorthosis.

She purchased season tickets for five seats to give to underprivileged children under the age of 18. As a result, each week five different children can use the seats to watch her beloved Anorthosis play.

She mentioned that she did this to honor the memory of her husband Andreas. “I did it to remember Andreas,” Mrs. Sofokleous said. “He was worthy and well-liked in the village, everybody big and small wanted his advice.”

Through the magic of sport and the generosity of a kindhearted old lady, joy is brought to the lives of children, and a man’s legacy is honored.
