Greece hosted Serbia in a “crash test” before Eurobasket 2017 to conclude the 2017 Acropolis International tournament. Greece, who tasted a 32-point defeat to Serbia earlier this month, put behind their heavy defeat in Belgrade and constructed a hopeful display against the Serbians at the OAKA stadium on Friday, leaving hope for a good run at the European Championships.

Serbia managed to build a 14-point lead (55-69), but the Greek team fought back and cut into Serbia’s advantage to a one possession game. The Galanolefki had the opportunity to steal the win at the end, but Printezis, Sloukas, and Calathes each failed to find the mark on their attempts and Greece tasted a 69-67 defeat. Despite the loss, the tightly contested match against one of the favorites to win the upcoming Eurobasket will leave Missas content, especially after falling to Georgia just a few days ago.

Sloukas led Greece with 15 points while Bourousis and Calathes followed with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Greece managed to grab 10 steals on the defensive end, but it was another worrisome performance from behind the arch as the Galanolefki finished the game 3/20.

Next stop for Greece will be Eurobasket 2017, where they will begin their campaign in the group stages against Iceland on Thursday, August 31.
