AEK continue to excel in Basketball Champions League

A consistent performer since the inaugural season of the competition, AEK are ranked second overall in the all-time Basketball Champions League Club Ranking.

It’s no secret that AEK enjoy competing in the Basketball Champions League. Managing to win the competition in 2017/2018, AEK have also enjoyed deep runs in the knockout round in both 2016/2017 and 2018/2019.

Perhaps then it’s not a surprise that AEK are ranked among the top clubs in the competition’s all-time Club Ranking. AEK’s 124 points, which are distributed to clubs based on their performances in the competition each season, puts the Athenian second all-time in the ranking behind only Spanish side Iberostar Tenerife, who have 146 points all-time.

AEK currently hold an eight-point lead over Turkey’s Teksut Bandirma, and a further 15 points over AS Monaco though the French side has featured in the rival tournament, the 7DAYS EuroCup since the start of last season.

AEK are also joined by domestic rivals PAOK in the top ten as the Thessaloniki are the second-best Greek side in the competition with 86 points. Aris and Promitheas, who last participated in the competition last season, ranked 26th and 33rd respectively.

Peristeri, who are making their debut in the competition this season, currently rank 69th in the all-time ranking following their qualification for the group stage and win in week one of the 2019/2020 season.

GREEK CLUBS HELPING GREECE’S RANKING

The success of Greek clubs in the competition sees Greece rank fourth all-time with an average of 89.1 points per season, just 0.2 points off the pace set by third-place Turkey. Spain enjoys the highest average with an unmatched 110.3 points per season, while France ranks second with an average of 98.3 points.
