In a match of few clear chances, it was the home side who looked most likely to score against Marinos Ouzounidis’ disappointing AEK team who were without their captain and talisman Petros Mantalos.

Indeed, Gianluca Festa’s Larissa came closest to scoring in the 34th minute when Greek midfielder Kenan Bargan hit the woodwork.

The match was a scrappy affair played on a poor quality pitch surface. The tempo of the game was constantly disrupted by a combination of wayward passing and niggly fouls with little in the way of quality football on show.

While the outcome is definitely a point gained for struggling Larissa, who moved up to 11th place with 15 points, for AEK it represents another setback in their now seemingly impossible effort to retain the title their won last season.

The Kitrinomavri remain in fourth place but they are 11 points adrift of leaders PAOK, who can extend that gap when they play Levadiakos on Monday.
