AEK’s run at the OAKA Olympic Indoor Hall appears to be coming to an end after the club confirmed it has found a new home at the Ano Liosia Olympic Hall.

Having called the OAKA Olympic Indoor Hall home since 2014, AEK have shared their home with co-tenants and city rivals Panathinaikos. It’s a place that will be remembered most for AEK’s run to the Basketball Champions League title in 2018, but the co-occupancy meant that the arena never truly felt like their own.

Now, AEK are set to make the Ano Liosia Olympic Hall their own with an official statement from the club confirming that the Athenians will make the 13 kilometer move to their new home in the near future.

“The Queen is embracing the greatest conquest in its modern history. The Queen is getting ready to enter her home,” read the statement released by the club: https://www.aekbc.gr/el/articles-3226/h-istorikh-taksh-apokathistatai.htm

“With the Greek Parliament’s vote on 15 November, the Olympic Indoor Hall in Ano Liosia will be the new home where AEK BC aspire to host the dreams of millions of AEK believers.”

The statement from the club went on to confirm that a date had not been set as of yet to deliver the land to the club but one was expected in the near future. AEK also did not confirm if they would be able to complete the move in time for the start of next season.

The Ano Liosia Olympic Hall was built in the lead-up to the 2004 Olympics with an estimated cost of €84 million. The venue hosted judo and wrestling events during the Olympics and has since hosted an array of events, including the live airing of the Greek TV So You Think You Can Dance.

With a capacity of 9,300, the venue offers far last of a capacity than that of the OAKA Olympic Indoor Hall, though it could offer a more hostile experience for basketball games given the close quarters between the crowd and the court.
