Taking into account the incidents witnessed between PAOK and AEK in the 2017/2018 Super League campaign, Sunday’s match in Thessaloniki was the most anticipated match of the season so far, however AEK defender Vasilis Lampropoulos committed two sloppy errors to allow PAOK hitman Aleksandar Prijovic to strike gold twice. During an engrossing encounter, visitors AEK smacked the woodwork on two occasions, but PAOK held on at the Toumba Stadium to gain revenge on their Dikefaloi rivals.

Nevertheless, in an impressive statistic, AEK lost their first Super League match in 11 months and 26 matches. Before the disappointment in Thessaloniki, the Kitrinomavri last failed to claim points in the domestic championship on 23 October 2017, falling short 0:1 against Atromitos at the Olympic Stadium in Athens. Since losing to Atromitos, the Enosis won 20 out of 25 Super League games, drawing the remaining five.

AEK next take to the field in Heraklion against OFI on Saturday ahead of a crucial Champions League duel with Benfica at home on October 2. The Athenians currently occupy fifth place of the Super League standings with nine points from four matches.
