AEK, coached by intelligent Italian manager Massimo Carrera, enjoyed a strong transfer campaign. To the joy of the AEK faithful, hugely popular Argentine striker Sergio Araujo returned to the Athens-based club from Las Palmas, with the Enosis expected to subsequently sign the 28-year-old on a permanent basis when the 2019/2020 season ends. In addition, talented Polish midfielder Damian Szymanski joined on loan from Russian side Terek Grozny, while promising Slovenian defender Ziga Laci also signed. The likes of Francisco Geraldes, David Simao and Milos Deletic all left the Greek capital.

In Piraeus, Olympiacos were hit by the painful blow of losing Daniel Podence to Wolverhampton Wanderers, but the Erythrolefki did respond by loaning Ahmed Hassan from Braga for a second time and signing Turkish winger Emre Mor on loan. The return of the influential Kostas Fortounis from injury musn’t be ignored either. Alongside the departure of Podence, Olympiacos also shifted Yassine Meriah and Miguel Angel Guerrero out on loan, with the pair having fallen out of favour with Pedro Martins.

Reigning champions PAOK, already satisfied with their squad, did not sign a single player during the winter. On the other hand, Panathinaikos were busy making additions to their team, securing the signatures of Yassin Ayoub, Dominik Nagy, Anuar and Carlitos, however the latter isn’t eligible to compete in official matches until the 2020/2021 campaign. Giorgos Donis was happy to get rid of Panagiotis Armenakas, Vangelis Oikonomou and troublesome French attacker Yohan Mollo.

Elsewhere, AE Larissa, Lamia, Panetolikos and Volos NFC made plenty of changes to their respective teams.
