AEK, PAOK handed potentially tricky Greek Cup ties

AEK and PAOK were both handed intriguing ties in the Last 16 of the Greek Cup, while Olympiacos take on Football League club Kalamata and Panathinaikos face PAS Giannina.

Ahead of the current campaign, the Greek Cup was given a thorough makeover, as the clubs which finished in the first five positions of the 2018/2019 Super League automatically qualified for the Last 16. All teams below fifth place were introduced to the tournament in the fifth round.

The draw for the Last 16 of the Greek Cup, which included the likes of AEK, Olympiacos and PAOK, took place on Monday afternoon.

Kalamata, who shocked AE Larissa in the fifth phase of the competition, have been pitted against Olympiacos.

PAOK, the reigning champions, will take on OFI in a challenging tie. AEK will also be put through their paces by a potentially dangerous, and unpredictable, Asteras Tripolis side. Panathinaikos have been paired up with Super League 2 leaders PAS Giannina.

Panetolikos and Panionios, the two bottom clubs in the Super League, will compete against each other.

The first legs will take place between January 7-9, before the return matches are played on January 14-16.
