AEK and PAOK avenged earlier losses in the Basketball Champions League on Gameday 8 as both sides managed monumental victories midweek. Promitheas, meanwhile, were on the wrong-end of a fourth quarter collapse as the European debutants were handed a surprise defeat in Patras.

Fourth Quarter Collapse in Patras

Promitheas conceded a fourth quarter lead to Filou Oostende en route to suffering their second straight loss in the Champions League following an 88-84 defeat on Tuesday night.

A 26-21 run from Oostende in the final frame overturned Promitheas’ slim lead in the final frame as Makis Giatras’ men failed to hold on.

Tony Meier notched 33 points to lead Promitheas scorers while Rion Brown managed 21 points and Terell Parks added 11 points to finish as Promitheas only other double-digits scorers.

AEK go top in Group C

AEK climbed to the summit of Group C after the Enosi avenged their Gameday 1 defeat to Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem with an 83-70 win in Israel on Tuesday night.

Malcolm Griffin tallied 25 points and Vince Hunter added 16 as the reigning champions improved to 7-1 on the season.

AEK used a 13-4 run in the fourth quarter to surge to their seventh straight win, with Jonas Maciulis leading the way in crunch time for Luca Banchi’s men.

Vital win for PAOK

Similar to AEK, PAOK avenged their Gameday 1 loss to Umana Reyer Venezia with a narrow 77-76 win on Wednesday night in Thessaloniki.

A solid start had PAOK on their way with the Dikefale tou Vorra grabbing a 25-17 lead in the first frame before managing a 46-37 lead by halftime. PAOK’s lead came under fire in the third quarter, however, as the Italians managed a 17-9 run to pull within one.

An unwavering PAOK would ensure there would be no late comeback as the hosts held on to the narrowest of margins all the way to the final buzzer

Phil Goss led the way for PAOK with 20 points while Linos Chrysikopoulos and Yanick Moreira each added 14 points.
