Originally, the match was supposed to be played in front of supporters in Germany, however the local authorities ordered for the game to be staged behind closed doors in connection with the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Leading 1-0 in the series after winning at the OAKA Indoor Hall last week, AEK required another victory to secure their quarter-final berth, and the 2017/2018 Basketball Champions League winners duly sealed the deal with a thrilling 90-86 victory. For long periods, Bonn seemed to be in the ascendancy, however AEK took a firm grip on proceedings during the latter stages and successfully saw the tie out.

Keith Langford, always a reliable scorer, registered 25 points for AEK. Marcus Slaughter caught the eye with a strong tally of 17 points and nine rebounds for the Greeks.

In the next phase, AEK will face Nymburk of the Czech Republic, who managed to defeat Bandirma in Turkey. The first game will be played on Czech territory.

THE MATCH

The key to the game was the 29 Bonn turnovers which AEK managed to take full advantage of.

Nevertheless, Bonn had a measure of control throughout the first two quarters, winning both of the maiden two frames to put themselves in a good position.

However, AEK weren’t prepared to play a third match in the series, and two successive three-pointers from Nikos Gkikas at the start of the decisive fourth quarter shifted the momentum firmly in the Greeks’ favour.

With a little less than two minutes remaining, Langford gave AEK the lead with a tough shot, and the Enosi wouldn’t look back.
