On Friday, the EPO’s Disciplinary Committee sentenced AEK to a two match closed stadium ban for the incidents that took place during last weekend's’ derby against Olympiacos. AEK, who were under double surveillance due to fan issues last season, were punished for the flares that were lit at the OAKA stadium during the derby. Although a light offense to say the least, the new Disciplinary Code punishes teams for such actions and heavier consequences are handed out to clubs under surveillance.

In addition to the 2 match closed stadium ban, AEK will be forced to pay a 32,000 euro fine. The Kitrinomavri will surely appeal the decision with hopes of reducing both penalties.

If the stadium ban stands, AEK will play their matchday 9 fixture against Atromitos and their matchday 11 fixture against PAOK without fans. A reminder, the Enosis began the season serving a 3-match closed stadium ban for the fan violence that took place in last season’s Greek Cup final against PAOK.
