AEK set impressive club record with unbeaten streak

AEK Athens edged closer to the Super League title with an important 1:0 win against Platanias on Sunday, setting a new club record in the process.

Watch LIVE from AGONAsport.com on Wednesday, April 18th the second leg of the Greek Cup semi-finals as AEK look to overturn their first leg defeat against Larissa!

Over the hills and far away in first position, AEK boast a large eight point advantage over second placed PAOK and require just one point from the final three fixtures to officially become Greek champions for the first time in 24 years. The Enosis have been in superb form throughout the entire Super League season, losing only twice in 27 fixtures.

On Sunday, a single goal from Lazaros Christodoulopoulos in the first half against Platanias was enough to earn a 1:0 victory. Taking into account the abandoned match against PAOK in Thessaloniki, a game in which AEK were granted a 3:0 victory after a court hearing, the Kitrinomavri have gone unbeaten for 19 consecutive Super League matches. AEK’s last defeat in the domestic championship was a 0:1 loss against Atromitos Athens at home on October 23.

Undefeated in 19 (15-4-0) successive games, AEK have broken the previous record of 18 (12-6-0) matches in a row without defeat which was set back in the 1989/1990 season. However, unlike 1990 when AEK only finished second in the table, this time the club are on the cusp of earning winning the championship.

Current Super League standings:

AEK, 63 points*
PAOK, 55 points**
Olympiacos, 54 points***
Atromitos, 47 points

*-AEK awarded 3:0 win against PAOK but the latter are appealing the decision.

**-PAOK appealing decision against 0:3 defeat to AEK and deduction of three points from the Super League table.

***-Olympiacos making final appeal against three-point deduction for fan trouble against AEK.
