AEK boast successful recent history with Swedish players. Between 2015 and 2018, midfielder Jakob Johansson spent three excellent years with the Athenian club, while talented left-back Niklas Hult joined from Panathinaikos in January. Taking into account the upcoming departure of ostracized Portuguese midfielder Andre Simoes, AEK are eager to sign an instant replacement in the winter, and they’ve supposedly set their sights on 24-year old Alexander Fransson.

According to reliable sources in the Swedish media, AEK have made Fransson their priority in the January transfer window, with the Greek club already entering negotiations with IFK Norrkoping, the player’s current team. However, it won’t be easy for AEK to land the Swedish international midfielder. Fransson only returned to hometown club Norrkoping from FC Basel in July, and considering their desire to keep him, it will take a large offer for the Swedes to sell their star man. Aftonbladet reported that AEK have already had an initial bid of one million euros rejected.

Fransson emerged through the Norrkoping academy, later transferring to Basel in January 2016. In the second half of the 2017/2018 season, Fransson was loaned to Lausanne Sport, before he was snapped up by Norrkoping again for one million. He made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2016 and has made six senior appearances for his country. The Swede is most comfortable playing as a defensive midfielder, so he would be a perfect replacement for Simoes.

In a boost to AEK’s chances of landing the midfielder, Martin Dahlin is the agent for both Fransson and Niklas Hult.

AEK aren’t stopping there, as the same media outlets in Sweden have stated that the Kitrinomavri are interested in acquiring the services of Swedish attacker Kristoffer Peterson. The 24-year old, who is capable of competing either on the wing or as the main striker, has been in superb form for Heracles Almelo in the Eredivisie, registering nine goals and two assists in 14 league games. Nevertheless, he won’t come cheap, with his price tag rated at three million by Transfermarkt.

Aftonbladet published an article with information that AEK are involved in conversations with Heracles over a possible transfer. This season, AEK have been struggling for goals in all competitions, and the lack of a true goalscorer in the team has been recognised by the management. On October 16, Peterson competed in his maiden match for the Swedish national team in a friendly against Slovakia (1:1). Peterson was previously on the books of Savedalen, Liverpool, Tranmere Rovers, Utrecht and Roda.

AEK have also expressed interest in Swedes Simon Thern (IFK Norrkoping, midfielder) and Jesper Karlstrom (Djurgardens IF, midfielder).
