Having initially made a shaky start to the campaign, AEK have now firmly found their feet in all competitions under the leadership of Ilias Papatheodorou, playing coherent basketball with Keith Langford offering star quality. Langford, 36, was in superb form against Aris this evening as he tallied 19 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Howard Sant-Roos gained an impressive double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Both Linas Chrysikopoulos and Nikos Gikas registered 15 points.

Although Aris lost, they did have one thing to cheer about, as Vladimir Dragicevic became the game’s leading scorer with 21 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists to his name. The Thessaloniki outfit remain in 13th place of the table with just two wins in 11 matches.

AEK, on the other hand, are in second spot behind Panathinaikos with seven victories and four defeats on the board.

The Athens-based club will face Larisa on the road next week, while Aris will hope to finally win again when hosting Lavrio.

THE MATCH

AEK made a positive start by winning the first quarter 19-15. Aris, however, weren’t prepared to go down without a fight, and they hauled themselves back into the match by claiming the second period by a score of 23-21.

Nevertheless, AEK soon regained control of the battle, as the Enosis won the third frame by 10 points to almost end the game as a contest.

AEK rounded off proceedings in the fourth quarter by scoring a further 26 points against a struggling Aris side lacking in confidence.
