On Friday, AEK released the following statement:

“AEK FC announces the arrival of Ziga Laci from Mura. The 17-year-old Slovenian defender has signed a three-year contract with our team.”

Standing 189 centimeters tall, Laci is a commanding figure in the centre of defence, having caught the eye in Slovenia with his solid showings for Mura. Ilija Ivic, the AEK technical director, spotted plenty of potential in Laci, subsequently deciding to sign him with a view to the future.

Laci has made four appearances for the under 19 Slovenian national team. He has scored one goal in four First Division games for Mura this season.

It remains to be seen if he will be able to immediately challenge for a place in the AEK first team. Laci initially travelled to Athens to complete his AEK signing in late January, but the Kitrinomavri have only just decided to unveil the signing.

“My feelings are special, AEK is a big club and I am very happy to sign,” said Laci. “First of all, I want to play good football. This organisation has a lot of history, and I want to achieve the best results possible.”
