PERISTERI 73-77 AEK

AEK, fresh from a disappointing defeat in the Basketball Champions League, prolonged their winning streak in the Basket League by achieving an impressive victory in Peristeri.

In what was an even contest, AEK only had a one-point advantage before the fourth quarter began, but they did hold on to see out the game and defeat one of their main rivals for second place of the standings behind Panathinaikos.

Nikos Zisis, who recently returned to AEK, achieved a total of 18 points, five assists and one rebound.

IONIKOS NIKAIA 72-65 ARIS

On Sunday, Ionikos Nikaia finally snapped their four-game losing streak in the championship, defeating lowly Aris 72-65 in the Athenian suburb of Palaio Faliro.

The hosts were trailing by two after the first two quarters. Nevertheless, they improved in the concluding 20 minutes, scoring 19 points in each of the last two periods.

Ionikos currently occupy eighth place, while Aris are languishing at the wrong end of the table.

Giannis Dimakos scored 19 points for the victors.

IFAISTOS LIMNOU 67-65 LAVRIO

It turned out to be a dramatic encounter between Ifaistos Limnou and Lavrio. Until the last set of 10 minutes, Lavrio looked set to emerge victorious, but Ifaistos Limnou had other ideas and stormed to an exciting 67-65 victory by winning the fourth quarter 26-13.

The two clubs are sitting in fifth and sixth place respectively.

Michalis Pelekanos (13 points), Jerry Smith (12 points) and Elston Turner (11 points) all reached double figures in terms of points for the home team.

RETHYMNO CRETAN KINGS 73-61 PANIONIOS

Panionios have slipped back into poor form again. On Saturday, the Panthers conceded their third Basket League defeat on the bounce, as Rethymno comfortably sailed to victory on the island of Crete.

Rethymno are in seventh spot of the standings, while Panionios are 10th as they face yet another relegation battle with the likes of Aris, PAOK, Larisa and Kolossos Rodou.

As usual, Conner Frankamp took a leading role for Rethymno, tallying 29 points, four assists and one rebound.

IRAKLIS 83-67 LARISA

Before this game started, struggling Larisa had won three out of their past four Basket League matches, but they slipped to their second defeat in a row as Iraklis claimed a routine 83-67 triumph on home court.

Iraklis are in ninth place as they continue to challenge for a playoff berth.

Olivier Hanlan (21 points) and Vassilis Kavvadas (20 points) scored with regularity for Iraklis. Interestingly, Larisa did win the fourth quarter 23-14, but the match was already done as a contest after losing the first period 26-11 and the third 26-15.

KOLOSSOS RODOU 73-70 PROMITHEAS

Given their rather unimpressive form this season, no one expected Kolossos to beat EuroCup club Promitheas, but they sprung a surprise with a vital 73-70 triumph in Rhodes.

For Promitheas, the damage was done in the first period, as Kolossos put themselves in the box seat by winning it 20-9. That was the only quarter which Kolossos won in the match.

Promitheas, as a result of this defeat, are now two points behind second-placed AEK in third position. Kolossos are 11th with six wins in 17 games.

Danny Agbelese stood out for Kolossos with 18 points and five rebounds.
