AEL Limassol earned a bit of a surprise win, a 2-1 comeback victory at home to APOEL at the Tsirion Stadio in Limassol. After a tame first half, Andrija Pavlovic drew first blood for APOEL, but AEL came roaring back, and goals by Andre Teixeira and Ryan Mmaee gave the home side the decision.

AEL jump up to fourth place, eight points shy of leaders Anorthosis, and six points behind second placed Omonoia. APOEL are knocked down to fifth place, with two games in hand on Anorthosis and Omonoia who they trail by nine and seven points, respectively.

THE MATCH

The match got off to a bit of a slow start. Ruben Jurado released a well-placed strike that Vid Belec got just enough of to knock it aside. APOEL gained their bearings a little bit towards the end of the first half, but Giorgos Merkis and Antonio Jakolis both put the ball over the net from point blank range when their time came. The first half drew to a close with no score.

The game came to life in the second half, and it was APOEL who drew first blood. Lucas Souza laid off to Jakolis who got it right back to Souza, and he found Andrija Pavlovic who banged it home past Vozinha. The 51st minute goal made it 1-0 for APOEL.

Andreas Avraam crossed in for Adnan Aganovic, and Belec did well to make the save, forcing a corner. However, from another corner on the hour mark, the ball made its way to Andre Teixeira and his header beat Belec for the equalizer, making the score 1-1.

In the 78th minute, AEL completes the comeback. Slobodan Medojevic crossed into traffic, but it got to Ryan Mmaee who chested it down, and volleyed it on goal. Belec got a large piece of it, but the shot still overpowered him, and AEL pulled ahead 2-1.

From there, they defended well and kept APOEL from creating chances, and AEL hung on for a 2-1 win over the seven-time defending champions.
