The Sunday action in the Cypriot First Division included two games with table leaders AEL Limassol defeating Enosis Neon Paralimniou 4:1, while Nea Salamina grabbed a dramatic 1:0 away win in stoppage time against Ermis Aradippou.

Paralimni visited the Tsireion Stadium in Limassol to face league leaders AEL. Surprisingly, the away team started with more energy and Gonzalo Zarate sent two warning strikes that Patryk Procek was able to clear. Paralimni’s pressure paid off as they found the breakthrough in the 24th minute with Chigozie Udoji, who headed a corner kick into Procek’s net. AEL then began to pressure and during first-half stoppage time, came close on two occasions as efforts from Andreas Avraam and Leandro Silva both hit the post. The visitors went into halftime leading 1:0, however, AEL’s late chances sent their message for the second half.

AEL did not waste any time coming out of the locker room and Manuel Torres, with a beautiful effort, cleared his opponent and gave no chance to Boris Kleyman, equalizing in the 50th minute. Fourteen minutes later, Torres struck again in similar fashion putting AEL in charge of the game. AEL remained hot and Andreas Makris served nicely to Kevin Lafrance for the 3:1 lead in the 67th minute. Just two minutes, later Ruben Jurado headed a ball from Torres and Kleyman was beaten for the fourth time in the game. AEL controlled the rest of the game and took home the victory as they lead the title race with six wins out of seven games. Paralimni are 10th and from early on, show that they will have to fight hard to avoid relegation.

Ermis Aradippou 0 - 1 Nea Salamina

Christoforou 90'+1'

In form Salamina were officially hosted by Ermis in their own Ammochostos Stadium in Larnaka. Ermis started strong but Salamina’s guardian angel, Robert Veselovksy, denied two early efforts from Wildson De Melo. In the 15th minute, it was Salamina’s turn to attack, with Kingsley Onuegbu’s shot going just wide of Giannis Firinidis’ post. The first half did not produce much more and both teams went into halftime goalless.

Kingsley kept leading Salamina’s attacking efforts and in the 55th minute was just an inch away of the goal but Kostas Pileas did not let him take the shot and cleared the ball to safety. Ten minutes later, Giannis Taralidis took the free kick but Veselovsky had the answer once again. In the 85th minute, Veselovsky was there again this time it was Yaroslav Martynyuk’s free kick that fell victim to the shot-stopper. Five minutes later and with the game heading into stoppage time, a Salamina corner caused confusion in the Ermis penalty area, and it was Kypros Christoforou who was in the right place to score the winner, giving an important victory to his team with a 1:0 scoreline. After their hard fought win, Salamina are now in 4th place. On the other hand, Ermis are bottom of the table with just one win in seven games.
