Although the season ended a couple of weeks ago across Europe, preparations are being made for next year’s UEFA Champions and Europa League competitions. On Wednesday, Olympiacos, Aris, and Atromitos will find out their opponents in the second qualifying round of their respective competitions.

OLYMPIACOS (UEFA Champions League)

As the Super League’s runner-up side, Olmypiacos will begin their quest for the UEFA Champions League group stages in the second qualifying round, meaning they will need to overcome three opponents to reach the main event.

Olympiacos will enter Wednesday’s second qualifying round draw as a seeded team and will have two possible opponents from the unseeded pot: PSV Eindhoven from the Netherlands and Viktoria Plzen from the Czech Republic. Basel of Switzerland will be the other seeded side. On paper, Olympiacos would like to avoid the Dutch side and be drawn with the Czechs.

Seeded: Basel (SUI), Olympiacos (GRE)

Unseeded: PSV Eindhoven (NED), Viktoria Plzen (CZE)

The winners from this round will advance to the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round (and secure a place in the Europa League group stages) while the two losing sides will enter the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round. The first leg fixtures will take place on July 23/24 and the return legs one week later on July 30/31.

ARIS and ATROMITOS (UEFA Europa League)

Both Atromitos and Aris, the Super League’s fourth and fifth placed teams, will begin their quest for the UEFA Europa League group stages in the second qualifying round, meaning they will need to overcome three opponents to reach the main event (similar to Olympiacos).

The two Greek sides will enter Wednesday’s second qualifying round draw as seeded team and will have an array of possible opponents from the unseeded pot. The only certain possible opponents at this stage include AEL Limassol (CYP), BK Häcken (SWE), Viitorul Constanta (ROU), Lechia Gdańsk (POL), and Lokomotiv Plovdiv (BUL).

The two teams will be drawn with a team listed above or more likely, a pair of opponents from the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round. Some notable names from this stage that can be drawn with either Atromitos or Aris in the second qualifying round include: Kilmarnock (SCO), Dinamo Tbilisi (GEO), Maccabi Haifa (ISR), CSKA Sofia (BUL), Debrecen (HUN), Laçi (ALB), and Shamrock Rovers (IRL).
