APOLLON LARISSA 2-1 XANTHI

Xanthi, who have shocked everyone to rise to fourth place of the Super League, suffered a setback in the Greek Cup as they lost 2-1 to Apollon Larissa on the road in the first leg of the fifth stage.

Initially, things looked positive for Xanthi when Christos Lisgaras headed a free kick into the net, but Apollon Larissa hit back with an equaliser in the 50th minute as David Nazim knocked the ball over the line at point blank range.

Both teams missed great chances as the game progressed. Eventually, Super League 2 side Apollon Larissa did grab the winner, as Argyris Brebos calmly stroked his attempt into the right corner. Xanthi had earlier hit the post.

PANSERRAIKOS 1-1 VOLOS NFC

Gamma Ethniki team Panserraikos held their own against Super League club Volos NFC at home. In fact, Panserraikos even took the lead with 20 minutes remaining, as Athanasios Giannarakis headed a set piece into the right corner with the goalkeeper stranded.

Panserraikos were closing in on a famous victory, but in the final minute of play, Marios Tsaousis fired a low effort past the goalkeeper to grab an important away goal for Volos.

PAS GIANNINA 1-0 VERIA

Hosting Veria in Ioannina, PAS maintained their positive start to the 2019/2020 season on Tuesday evening, as they earned a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Giorgos Pamlidis in the 47th minute.

PAS Giannina, favourites to earn promotion back to the Super League, fielded a strong line-up with the likes of Vladyslav Naumets, Fabry, Pitu and Pamlidis all playing. Epaminondas Pantelakis made an early clearance on the line after Lefteris Choutesiotis got his bearings wrong.

Veria then had a goal ruled out for offside. The visitors were holding their own, but two minutes after the half-time break, Pamlidis headed Naumets’ excellent cross in.

Giannis Pasas of Veria received a second yellow card in the 61st minute as his team ended the match shorthanded.
