The lead changed hands three times in a free-scoring affair, with the hosts first going ahead thanks to Argentina defender Sebastian Bartolini after 26 minutes.

That opener prompted an immediate and powerful response from the visitors, who quickly went 2-1 up thanks to two goals in three minutes from defender Konstantinos Mavropanos (32) and Spanish forward Pedro Conde (35).

The hosts were handed a way back into the game, however, just three minutes later when PAS’s New Zealand international defender Themistoklis Tzimopoulos accidentally directed the ball past his own goalkeeper to make it 2-2.

At that point it seemed that might be the end of the scoring, until the 74th minute when Apollon won a penalty which was converted by Anete to spark jubilant celebrations among the home fans. Those fans then went delirious when Christos Alpanis added a fourth with four minutes left.

There was still life left in this liveliest of matches, though, with PAS fighting to the death and grabbing a late consolation in the fifth minute of added time through Conde.

The win means Apollon move out of the bottom two and up to 11th place with 10 points from 10 matches, just three points behind PAS who are ninth.

Improving Larissa held to draw by determined Kerkyra

Larissa’s recent solid run of form continued as they earned a hard-fought point in a 1-1 draw at Kerkyra on Sunday.

Croatian striker Sandi Križman gave the visitors the lead somewhat against the run of play after 33 minutes, but the Vissini were pegged back just seven minutes later when the home side were correctly awarded a penalty.

Larissa defender Nikos Golias was penalised for a foul on striker Giorgos Pamlidis, and French defender Mathieu Gomes stepped up to slot the ball home from 12 yards.

Both teams had further chances to score but could not find a way through to pinch a winner, so an entertaining Matchday 10 encounter ended all-square, with Larissa now unbeaten in their last three matches with two wins and a draw.
