AEK have been dealt a worrying blow ahead of the upcoming Super League playoffs. On Friday, Araujo felt discomfort in his right leg towards the end of the training session in Spata, and medical tests subsequently confirmed that the 28-year-old forward suffered a second degree muscular tear in his quadriceps. The Argentine’s recovery process will last up to four weeks, meaning he is in danger of missing the first game of the playoffs against Panathinaikos on the weekend of June 6-7.

Confirmation that the playoffs and playouts will start in early June is expected after Monday’s Super League video conference.

Since returning on loan from Las Palmas in January, Araujo has made eight appearances across all tournaments for AEK, scoring the one goal. AEK do have the option to sign Araujo on a permanent basis when the 2019/2020 campaign ends.

KLONARIDIS SET FOR CYPRIOT MOVE

Viktor Klonaridis, who has struggled to make an impact this season for the Kitrinomavri, is set to complete a move to Marinos Ouzounidis’ APOEL. Ouzounidis, 51, previously worked successfully with Klonaridis when coaching Panathinaikos and AEK.

Klonaridis will transfer to APOEL as a free agent after his AEK contract expires in the summer.

The versatile 27-year-old attacker returned to AEK from Panathinaikos ahead of the 2017/2018 season. However, while Klonaridis has shown regular glimpses of his undoubted talent on both the domestic and continental stage, he hasn’t been able to generate any substantial consistency with the Enosi. Klonaridis registered two goals for AEK against Volos NFC and Panionios in the current Super League campaign.
