Goals from Javier Umbides and Roland Ugrai inside the first 20 minutes proved enough to give Giorgos Korokakis’ team the win that their impressive performance deserved, with the Peristeri club moving up to ninth place on 18 points.

Fatjon Andoni reduced the deficit for Larissa in the 43rd minute, but despite long spells of pressure from the Vissini in the second half, Atromitos held form to claim a vital three-point haul.

Larissa remain sixth, one point ahead of Atromitos. Just five points separate sixth from 11th place in what is becoming an increasingly intense battle for a place in the top six among the mid-table clubs.

Panionios’ season does not seem to be getting any better as the Nea Smyrni club followed up last weekend’s 5-0 thrashing at AEK with a 2-1 loss Volos, as their bid for Super League survival continues to look like a massive task.

Nikos Papavasiliou’s side, who were outclassed at the OAKA last week, produced a determined display at the Panthessaliko stadium, going in front after 27 minutes through Dimitris Emmanouilidis’ 27th-minute strike.

But, just as it seemed that the Panthers may come away from Magnesia with three crucial points, Juan Muniz levelled matters for the home side with a goal after 74 minutes. Then fatigue seemed to set in for the visitors and Antonis Dedakis headed home a brilliant winning goal with three minutes left to complete a great comeback.

The result means Panionios remain second from bottom on six points, while Volos moved level on 17 points with 10-placed Lamia.
