Atromitos sack Anastasiou

Atromitos have sacked Giannis Anastasiou from his role of head coach, the club have confirmed.

On Saturday afternoon, Atromitos released this following statement:

“Atromitos FC announces the termination of Giannis Anastasiou’s contract as coach.

“At a meeting between technical director Giannis Angelopoulos and coach Giannis Anastasiou, the latter was informed of the decision to terminate the contract.

“Mr. Anastasiou displayed professionalism, hard work and good ethics with our team, but the most important element of football is the results. This is the reason why the contract was terminated.

“We would like to thank him for the cooperation together, wishing him every success for the future.

“Until a new permanent head coach is appointed, the duo of Giorgos Korakakis and Sokratis Ofridopoulos will manage the team.”

Anastasiou had joined Atromitos ahead of the 2019/2020 season after Damir Canadi left. However, he was unable to make his mark in Peristeri, with Atromitos currently sitting in 10th place of the Super League with 11 points from 10 games. Atromitos also lost in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers to Legia Warsaw in the summer under the guidance of Anastasiou.
