The unpredictable results which cost former coach Yiannis Anastasiou his job reared its head once more under new coach Georgios Korakakis, with Rogerio Thuram’s second-half strike almost proving the difference between the two clubs.

The Brazilian forward, who is the club’s top scorer, slotted home clinically after being put through on goal by Elini Dimoutsos’ excellent pass.

It seemed like the visitors would go on to win it, but a late header from Apostolos Vellios from Javier Umbides’ cross five minutes from full-time salvaged the draw for Atromitos.

The match was not a classic by any means of the imagination, and although Atromitos enjoyed more possession in the first half, it was Lamia who looked more dangerous going forward - and the Fthiotida team got their reward.

Atromitos’ best chance before their equalizing goal came after 66 minutes when forwards Giorgos Manousos and Apostolos Vellios combined to good effect, with the former picking out the latter with a cross. However, Vellios’ header was narrowly off target.

The draw helps neither side in their respective goals, with Atromitos moving up just one place to seventh on 19 points, while Lamia also move up one place to ninth with 18 points.

Stalemate in Xanthi

Neither side covered themselves in glory at the Xanthi FC Arena in Pigadia on Wednesday as this Matchday 15 contest between Xanthi and Panetolikos ended in a goalless draw.

It was an instantly forgettable match in which chances were at a premium, with Panetolikos showing no desire to get forward in their attempt to simply hold a misfiring Xanthi side at arms length.

After this result, which was in the end a fair reflection on the balance of play, Xanthi are now three games without a win and tonight represents another missed opportunity for the Akrites to establish themselves in the top six.

The Thrace club remain in seventh place with 18 points collected from 15 matches played so far. For Panetolikos, although the Super League’s basement club did not lose this time, they remain rooted to the foot of the table without a win all season and with just four points.
