Damir Canadi’s in-form Atromitos side were in control from start to finish in Epirus, taking all three points thanks to a goal in each half from striker and top scorer Efthymis Koulouris, who bagged his 15th strike of the season, and Amr Warda.

The result means Atromitos, who remain in fourth, close the gap on third-placed AEK to a single point ahead of the Kitrinomavri’s trip to face Olympiacos at the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium on Sunday in the big Athens derby clash of Matchday 21.

THE MATCH

PAS came into this contest in buoyant mood having beaten Panathinaikos last weekend, but they were second best in every department tonight against an Atromitos side who have not conceded a goal in three matches.

The visitors made a bright start and they were ahead after 12 minutes when captain Javier Umbides sent over a superb free-kick for Koulouris to score with a simple yet clinical finish past Marko Vellidis in the PAS goal.

PAS did have their moments, despite being second best for long spells, and they missed two chances in the space on two minutes to level the match. First, on-loan Olympiacos striker Dimitris Manos was denied by Atromitos goalkeeper Balázs Megyeri after 20 minutes, and one minute later the Hungarian shot stopper saved well from Fabry Castro.

The pendulum of the match swinged firmly in Atromitos’ favor after that, and they should have made it 2-0 in the 29th minute when Emanuel Sakic took advantage of some poor defending from PAS to set up Koulouris, but the usually dependable striker fired wide.

PAS almost equalized on the stroke of half-time but Manos was again denied by a solid save from Megyeri.

After half time Atromitos killed off the game as a contest when Warda struck to make it 2-0. The Egyptian midfielder had the simplest task of tapping the ball into an empty net after a superb run from fellow PAOK loanee Dimitris Chatziisaias ended with him serving up a perfect assist.

There was little to suggest that PAS could recover from that blow, and so it proved as the visitors held firm to claim the three points and deservedly so.
