Bourousis, currently on the books of Gran Canaria in Spain, has been a vital member of the Greek national team for a number of years. In 2005, Bourousis helped Greece historically win the 2005 EuroBasket competition, before claiming a bronze medal at the same tournament in 2009. Bourousis also won the 2002 European U20 Championship with his country.

On Friday, via his Instagram account, Bourousis revealed that he will no longer be available for international selection.

Bourousis had made his debut for the senior national team in 2005.

The Hellenic Basketball Federation thanked Bourousis for his efforts:

Overall, in a grand total of 174 appearances for Greece, Bourousis averaged 9.5 points per game.

He will still continue playing competitive basketball at club level.
