Overwhelming favourites to progress to the quarter-finals, Olympiacos let their class do the talking in Kalamata, as goals from Lazar Randjelovic and Lazaros Christodoulopoulos - his first since returning from a long-term injury - secured a 2-0 victory.

The second key will take place at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus next week.

Kalamata, who are playing in the Football League, knocked out AE Larissa in the previous round.

THE MATCH

Olympiacos, fielding a makeshift team with the likes of Bobby Alain, Bruno Gaspar, Leonardo Koutris and Christodoulopoulos all included in the line-up, took the lead within six minutes.

Randjelovic fired a difficult effort beyond the scrambling Kalamata goalkeeper to immediately give Olympiacos an important away goal.

However, to their credit, Kalamata subsequently settled into proceedings and were presented with a handful of promising opportunities. Djordje Rakic was particularly threatening, but when taking aim from decent positions, he lacked accuracy.

Olympiacos, however, improved in the second half and quickly put the game beyond Kalamata’s reach.

Connecting with a pinpoint cross from Maxi Lovera, Christodoulopoulos turned the ball into the net for his maiden goal since returning to competitive action.

In complete control of the game, Olympiacos could have scored more goals, but Miguel Angel Guerrero was denied by the woodwork and several opportunities were wasted.
