Dellas announces resignation at the end of the season

Panetolikos coach, Traianos Dellas, informed the club that he will depart at the end of the season due to personal matters.

On Friday, Panetolikos coach, Traianos Dellas, informed the Agrinio club that he will resign from his position at the concluding of the 2018/19 season. The club released a joint statement from Dellas and Gerasimos Belevonis informing fans of the unexpected developments.

In the statement, Dellas mentioned that he will not continue as the club’s coach next season due to personal matters. He thanked the club’s administration and specifically Mr. Kostoulas for giving him the job 16 months ago and praised the club’s owner for his different approach to football. He went on to thank Makis Belevonis for his support during his time in charge and the club’s fans, who were with the team at all times and respected him during his time at Panetolikos. He also thanked his players who worked with him to achieve the club’s goals and wished them good health and the best in their careers. Finally, he thanked all those who individually worked with him while he was the coach of Panetolikos.

Belevonis’ remarks were included in the statement and he thanked Traianos Dellas for the perfect relationship they had, praising Dellas for his professionalism. He also thanked the ‘person’ Dellas for his integrity, principles, and morales that he houses that are consistent with those of Panetolikos. He ended by saying that he respects Dellas’ decision to resign from the post and is sure that their paths will cross again in the future.

Dellas took over Panetolikos on January 12, 2018 and helped the club to an eighth placed finish in the 2018 Super League. This season, Panetolikos put together an exceptional campaign and were contesting a place in Europe in the latter part of the season. They currently sit in sixth place with 36 points, just seven points behind fifth placed Aris.

According to sport24.gr, Panetolikos will turn to the Portuguese market for Dellas’ successor. Luis Castro, the manager of Guimaraes’ U23 side, looks the be an option on the table.
