Devis Epassy gaffe hands Olympiacos victory over Levadiakos
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 11
A woeful error by Levaidakos’ French goalkeeper Devis Epassy gifted Olympiacos a 2-1 win over their opponents from Livadeia on Saturday evening in a match which the home side made hard work of winning.
Epassy, who had been a superb performer throughout the match for Jose Anigo’s battling side, failed to hold a late, long-range effort from defender Leonardo Koutris as Takis Lemonis’ team clinched three vital points which moved them level on 20 points with leaders Atromitos and AEK, both of whom play tomorrow.
Olympiacos returned from the international break in good form, dominating possession and having the lion’s share of scoring opportunities, so it came as no surprise when they went 1-0 ahead two minutes before half-time through Belgian midfielder Guilamme Gillet.
Kostas Fortounis then wasted a golden chance to make it 2-0 in the 53rd minute when he missed from the penalty spot.
The hosts were made to pay for their profligacy after 68 minutes when the visitors, who have surprised many with their solid form this season, pulled level with their only chance of the match through Greek forward Petros Giakoumakis.
That prompted Olympiacos to step up a gear, and surely enough the Erythrolefki piled the pressure on the Levadiakos goal but found Epassy a formidable barrier - until six minutes from time, when he fumbled Koutris speculative shot.
