Djokovic reigns in Dubai

Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas was defeated 6-3 6-4 in the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships by world number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia.

Both players came into the match in great form, as Tsitsipas was on an eight-match win streak, and Djokovic held a 17-0 record in 2020. The two had faced each other four times before, with each player winning two of those meetings.

The Greek held break point to go up 3-2 in the first set, but failed to convert. Djokovic later broke Tsitsipas’ serve, and ultimately won the set 6-3. In the second set, the Serb broke Tsitsipas to go up 3-2. Nevertheless, Tsitsipas was able to break back in the subsequent game to level the set at 3-3.

Djokovic would break Tsitsipas’ serve to take a 5-4 lead in the second set, which he was then able to close out on serve to take the match 6-3 6-4. This is Djokovic’s fifth Dubai title, and 79th overall title. On the other hand, this is the second year in a row that Tsitsipas has been runner-up in Dubai.
