Initially, Olympiacos began the season with Andreas Gianniotis and Jose Sa as the goalkeeping pair, but after the former put in a few disappointing performances, he was dropped from the team and is now training separately after reportedly voicing his displeasure with the situation. With Gianniotis heading for the exit door, Olympiacos are in need of a new goalkeeper to provide cover for Sa, and they have set their sights on AC Milan shot stopper Antonio Donnarumma, the brother of Gianluigi.

Donnarumma, 28, has yet to make a single competitive appearance for AC Milan this season, sitting on the sidelines with Gianluigi and Pepe Reina the favoured choices. Earlier this week, reports suggested his move to Olympiacos could be scrapped because of an injury received by Reina, however Italian journalists are now reporting that Milan have given the green light for the transfer to go ahead. He would join Olympiacos on loan and the deal could be completed by mid-week.

Previously in his career, Donnarumma has played in Greece, representing Asteras Tripolis in the 2016/2017 season. Donnarumma’s value is rated at 500 thousand euros by Transfermarkt.

PAPADOPOULOS RETURNING TO PIRAEUS

Avraam Papadopoulos, the experienced centre-back, seems to be on his way back to Piraeus for another stint with Olympiacos.

Now 34 years of age, the Greek defender is currently on the books of Brisbane Roar, but with one of either Roderick Miranda or Yassine Meriah set to leave Olympiacos and Dimitris Nikolaou departing, the Thrylos want more defensive cover and are eager to sign Papadopoulos. For his part, Papadopoulos is hungry to rejoin Olympiacos, and it’s possible he will mutually cancel his contract with Brisbane Roar in order to push through the transfer.

Papadopoulos will probably pen a six-month deal with Olympiacos, however there are issues concerning his physical state.

In the past, Papadopoulos was an Olympiacos player between 2008 and 2014, winning five Super League titles and three Greek Cups. Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis is known to be a fan and there is a high chance the transfer will become a reality.
