Doxa and Apollon Larissa play to goalless draw

Doxa and Apollon Larissa played to a 0-0 draw in Drama as matchday three of the 2019/2020 Super League 2 got underway.

Throughout the 90 minutes, both teams were presented with a handful of clear chances to hit the back of the net, but the two goalkeepers were on form as the game ended goalless. Having initially started the season with a defeat to AE Karaiskakis, Doxa are now unbeaten in two after beating Apollon Pontou last week, while Apollon Larissa also have four points. Apollon Larissa had conceded a 2-0 loss to Karaiskakis in their previous match.

Doxa and Apollon Larissa occupy sixth and seventh place of the Super League 2 table respectively.

Doxa face a tough trip to Athens for a game against Apollon Smyrnis next week, while Apollon Larissa prepare to host Panachaiki.

THE MATCH

Apollon Larissa immediately came close to an opener as a cross from the right wing glanced against the crossbar. The rebound was then alertly saved.

As the match progressed, Doxa gradually began to create more openings in attack, as Nikos Ioannidis had two shouts for a penalty declined before a header at point blank range was brilliantly saved by Apollon Larissa goalkeeper Nestoras Gekas.

Apollon Larissa missed a great opportunity to take the lead midway through the second half when Gustavo thumped a powerful header wide.

Doxa’s last chance to earn all three points arrived in the final minutes as Christos Rovas whacked a strong volley over the bar.
