Panathinaikos were handed a rude awakening in the EuroLeague on Friday night as Anadolu Efes cruised to a comfortable win on a miserable night for the Greek Champions…

Watch Greece's final game in the UEFA Nations League at home to Estonia on Sunday, November 18th. Details here.

Panathinaikos’ two-game winning run in the EuroLeague came to a halt on Friday night as the Trifylli were handed a lopsided 78-62 loss at the Sinan Erdem Dome in Turkey.

Deshaun Thomas and Nick Calathes both scored 11 points to finish as joint leaders for Panathinaikos in scoring, though the latter did also add 8 assists on a near double-double for the Greek international.

A sluggish start saw Panathinaikos fall behind by eight points by the end of the first quarter before the Turks doubled their lead in the second quarter as Panathinaikos trailed 44-28 at the half.

Panathinaikos gave a better account of themselves to start the second half, but Xavi Pascual’s men failed to eat into Efes’ lead despite trimming the deficit to 14 points heading into the fourth quarter.

From there, perhaps the Trifylli had one eye on Sunday’s derby clash with Panathinaikos, as the Athenians failed to really make a solid pushback as Efes sealed a comfortable win to improve to 5-2 on the season.

Panathinaikos, who slipped to 4-3 in the EuroLeague with the defeat, will now shift their focus to domestic duties with Olympiacos looming in the horizon before a busy week in the EuroLeague next week as the Trifylli will face a doubleheader on the continent starting with a visit from Barcelona Lassa on Wednesday.
