Still without a win in the Super League, it was always going to be an uphill struggle for Panetolikos against leaders Olympiacos, and they duly conceded a 3-0 defeat in Agrinio. Panetolikos remain in last place of the table with a mere four points from 13 games, while Olympiacos occupy joint first with PAOK.

Moroccan striker El Arabi, who has now scored six goals in the league for Olympiacos, registered two markers in the match. Daniel Podence initially opened the scoring in the early stages.

Panetolikos will face PAOK at home next week, while Olympiacos make the trip to Asteras Tripolis.

THE MATCH

Olympiacos immediately put themselves in a commanding position.

With only six minutes on the clock, Portuguese winger Podence got the ball rolling for the Erythrolefki, finding space inside the penalty box and firing low into the right corner.

Panetolikos came within inches of grabbing an equaliser in the 33rd minute. Cutting to the middle, Gboly Ariyibi unleashed a rising attempt, but the crossbar came to Olympiacos’ rescue.

El Arabi punished Panetolikos for that miss with four minutes remaining of the first half.

Jumping high to meet Giorgos Masouras’ searching cross, El Arabi powered a thumping header beyond the desperate dive of Christopher Knett.

The prolific 32-year-old then made it three in first-half stoppage time, receiving a low pass from the left wing and firing past the goalkeeper with ease.

With the match done and dusted as a contest, Olympiacos took their foot off the gas in the second half, however they did have chances to increase their advantage. Lazar Randjelovic was denied by Knett at close range when escaping his marker.

Hillal Soudani thought he scored Olympiacos’ fourth in the 63rd minute, but his goal was ruled out for a foul committed by Ruben Semedo.
