One of the main protagonists of Olympiacos’ season has undoubtedly been Youssef El-Arabi. The Moroccan striker has been on fire in the Greek Super League 1 and the club’s Champions’ League and Europa League campaigns.

The French-born attacker began his career with Caen and has also played in Spain for Granada as far as his experience with European leagues go. In comparison to those statistics, El-Arabi is currently having his best-ever league season in Europe. The 2019/20 season has seen El-Arabi score 24 goals in 38 matches in all competitions for Olympiacos. This includes a league-leading 17 goals in 26 matches at the domestic level and seven goals in 12 games in European play.

His most productive season in Europe before that saw him score 17 goals, a feat he achieved twice, once for Caen in the 2010/11 season and also for Granada in the 2015/16 campaign.

El-Arabi has also played for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia and Al-Duhail in the Qatar Stars League. For Al-Duhail, he scored an incredible 102 goals in 88 matches over three seasons, including a personal best of 42 goals in the 2017/18 season. For his career, El-Arabi has now scored 217 goals in total at the club and national team level.

The disruption to football due to the Coronavirus pandemic means it is unknown when or if the European season will continue. Thus, it’s difficult to predict whether El-Arabi will be able to add to his tally for the current campaign.

One thing we can tell is that even at 33, El-Arabi appears to be getting better with age. The Morocco international has been prolific for the Erythorlefki this season, scoring crucial goals at home and abroad. And Olympiacos will be hoping that their star hitman will continue to find the back of the net with such regularity for the remainder of his three-year deal.
