Emmanouilidis punished by Donis and Dabizas

Young Panathinaikos forward Dimitris Emmanouilidis has been punished by the club and forced to train alone for the next week, following two instances of misconduct. When the rumours surfaced, allegations arose around Emmanouilidis skipping training or spending too much time on social media, however, it has been revealed it has nothing to do with that.

The club announced the punishment earlier this week as they waited for the home match against Asteras Tripolis to pass in order to keep the squad settled. The first of the two instances of a lack of professionalism and poor attitude came in lead to the match against PAS Giannina where he slept in when Giorgos Donis had scheduled a video session. The second came during the actual game against PAS Giannina where he responded negatively to directions given to him by Donis and other members of the coaching staff. He appeared to ignore the commands from the sidelines.

Donis, along with technical director Nikos Dabizas, have opted to take a hardline stance to teach Emmanouilidis and the rest of the young squad a lesson that professionalism, respect, and a good attitude are vital ingredients to a successful team.

It was revealed that Emmanouilidis’ omission from the game against Asteras Tripolis was purely “down to tactical reasons” and had nothing to do with this. He will be available for selection for the run of three difficult upcoming derbies against PAOK, AEK, and Olympiacos, but it remains to be seen if Donis will choose to play the talented 18-year old striker.
