Dutchman van 't Schip, 55, is reportedly (as stated by Sport FM, gazzetta.gr) involved in advanced negotiations with the EPO to replace the outgoing Angelos Anastasiadis as the head coach of the senior national team. In recent days, German manager Thomas Doll has also been linked with the vacancy, but van 't Schip is the priority for the EPO. An announcement is expected after the next Board of Directors meeting on July 31.

The well-known Felix Magath, ex-coach of Konstantinos Mitroglou at Fulham, was considered a candidate by the EPO but his financial demands are too high.

Born in Canada in a Dutch family, van 't Schip enjoyed a successful playing career, winning the 1988 European Championship with the Netherlands alongside plenty of competitions with Ajax. He also made over 100 appearances for Genoa in Italy.

As a manager, van 't Schip has been the head coach of Twente, Jong Ajax, Melbourne City, Guadalajara and PEC Zwolle. He has also served as an assistant coach with the Dutch national team and the Ajax seniors.

Former professional footballer Aron Winter, who is involved in the Ajax coaching system, will be van 't Schip’s direct assistant with the Ethniki Omada. Greek specialists will also be included in the coaching staff.

Greece return to competitive action in September. The team currently occupies fourth place of Group J in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying with four points.
